Restoration, as opposed to rebuilding makes no or few tonal adjustments to an instrument and is often a way to ensure the long term future of an existing instrument. Restoration involves both an understanding of the musical and physical resources of the organ and how to best ensure these are used most effectively. Consequently, in organs of significant historical value, we seek to ensure that historically appropriate restoration principles are used. Jonathan’s musical experience of old instruments and their music, and a deep and abiding interest in conservation of buildings as well as instruments ensures that we work to the highest standard of conservation.
